Paranormal Investigation Techniques and Equipment

More and more people are wanting to do their own paranormal investigating. The popularity of shows such as "Ghost Hunters" has everyone wanting to find their own proof of the paranormal. If one is seriously wanting to investigate a haunting, there are several things that are important to know... and many misconceptions that need to be clarified

First and foremost, if you are expecting the drama that many ghost hunting shows portray... pack it in now. Paranormal investigating is a process of research, documentation, recording, videotaping, and hours upon hours of examining photographs and evidence. (How to Conduct Research for a Paranormal Investigation ) There will also be hours of listening to tapes for EVP's ( Electronic Voice Phenomenon ) studying temperature changes, monitoring EMF meters (electromagnetic field), and gathering all of the evidence to be examined. Then all natural explanations for any apparent activity captured must be ruled out.

If you are planning on investigating with a group of people it is preferable to go with people you know and trust. However, if you are going to interview for positions outside of who you know, make sure you ask tough questions to eliminate anyone who is looking for a thrill or who isn't serious about it. Ask the same question in different ways and listen for the answers and any variations. Do criminal background checks as well.

Basic Rules for Beginning a Paranormal Investigation

1) If you are going to an abandoned location ASK PERMISSION. Find who owns the property and obtain the proper authorization to be on the premises. Trespassing is a punishable offense, even for a ghost hunter. If the building is dilapidated or condemned... there's a very good chance you could be seriously hurt from the condition of the floors or stairways.

2) Don't ever go alone. If you are not part of an actual paranormal team then take several trustworthy friends with you. Not only is it safer, it provides witnesses for verification of any potential activity. There should be a password that each member knows in case an investigation needs to be ended abruptly. That way if something does happen, there isn't a lot of panicking and ruining of evidence.

3) If this is your own home or one of an individual, make sure everything about the activity has been documented. Interviews need to be done with all parties involved in the investigation. Everything in these time frames should be written down, including everyday happenings, causes of stress for whoever is living in the home, weather... anything that can be written down should be. This will help establish patterns and possibly find other causes for events that seem paranormal. If it is someone else's home make sure extensive questions are asked and notes taken of any potential areas to focus on.

4) Do your research. Paranormal teams each have their own approach to researching the history of the home or property. Some prefer to do the research after the physical investigation is done... some prefer before. Whatever you decide to do, the best place to begin researching a property is the local library by looking at city directories. From there, going to the city hall and local newspaper offices can yield more information. County records will also give property information about who and what was there before. If you are investigating a famous haunted location, there will be many legends that are easily found... but legends are often full of misconceptions. Find out the factual history, and in doing so, make note of any "grain of truth" to the stories about the place.

5) Get the proper equipment... and learn how to use it. You can have the most top of the line cameras, video equipment and recording devices, but if you don't educate yourself on how to properly operate them, your evidence will be faulty. Learn about what settings cameras and video equipment need to be on and make sure the equipment is clean. When recording audio, announce any noises that are made by natural causes. Test and retest the equipment, and always make sure there are plenty of batteries on hand.

TYPES OF HAUNTING

Residual Haunting

The most prevalent type of haunting, by far, is referred to as a residual haunting. In this type of haunting the ghostly energy goes through a cycle of actions over and over again. It's like a video clip that repeats itself in a loop. Oftentimes this plays out at a specific time as though it were following a schedule. Most commonly the scene played out will be that of a tragic event, such as a death. This type of haunting is more like a psychic impression of energy than an actual haunting by a presence or entity.

Intelligent Haunting
The second classification of haunting is known as the Classic or Intelligent Haunting. In an Intelligent Haunting the spirit, or ghost, demonstrates an intelligence and an awareness of its surroundings. These ghosts have been known to communicate with humans and to interact with their environment. In this type of haunting it is common for objects to be moved. There have been reports of ghosts making noises, such as rapping or banging on walls, slamming doors, or making footsteps. Ghosts have been known to move things around, or even to hide objects. They may even turn light switches on and off. This type of ghost will often manifest the personality of someone who has died. Smells and odors that were commonly present with the person when they were still living, such as tobacco, perfume, or flowers, often occur in these hauntings.

Microsoft puts Office in the cloud

SEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp is making its biggest move into the mobile, Internet-accessible world of cloud computing this week, as it takes the wraps off a revamped online version of its hugely profitable Office software suite.
The world's largest software company is heaving its two-decade old set of applications -- including Outlook email, Excel spreadsheets and SharePoint collaboration tools -- into an online format so that customers can use them on a variety of devices from wherever they can get an Internet connection.
It wants to push back against Google Inc, which has stolen a small but worrying percentage of its corporate customers with cheaper, web-only alternatives, which remove the need for companies to spend time on installing software or managing servers.
"It's obvious that Microsoft has to do this if they're going to remain competitive with Google," said Michael Yoshikami, chief executive of money manager YCMNET Advisors. "It's something they have to do."
Microsoft shares rose 3.7 percent on Monday, the largest gain in a single trading day since September, partly buoyed by hopes that it can ultimately boost profits by extending its software dominance to the growing cloud sector.
"If they execute effectively and it's adopted, it could be a game changer," said Yoshikami. "Whether or not that will happen is a whole other story."
Microsoft has offered online versions of some Office programs -- chiefly Outlook email -- for its corporate customers for several years, and last year rolled out free versions for individual home users.
Chief Executive Steve Ballmer is set to present an overhauled and updated set of offerings -- collectively called Office 365 -- at an event in New York City

The Top 5 In-Demand Degrees

New research shows that having the right degree could help.
"As is typically the case, business and engineering majors, plus those earning degrees in technical fields, including computer science, are most in demand at the bachelor's degree level," writes the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) in its "2011 Job Outlook".

In-Demand Degree #1 - Accounting

Knowing how to read and balance a financial spreadsheet could come in handy when marketing yourself to companies. When asked for your skill-set, you'll be able to respond confidently that you are well-versed in the latest accounting theories and practices and know how to use the most current software.

In-Demand Degree #2 - Finance

Want to impress high-level business employers? Understanding the markets and how businesses raise and invest capital is a good place to start. Studying finance in school could ground you in basic economic theories while allowing you to pick up the latest buzz words used by the banking and business worlds.

In-Demand Degree #3 - Engineering

Engineering is a common choice for any list of top majors and our list of in-demand degrees is no different. Drilling down even further, electrical engineering graduates are poised to find the greatest success in the job market, according to the NACE survey, followed by mechanical engineering grads.

In-Demand Degree #4 - Computer Science

Going back to school to study computer science is a great way to stay relevant. Computers have revolutionized the business world and even the way we enjoy our free time. At the center of this perfect storm are computer scientists, who are always looking for more creative and efficient ways to do things.

In-Demand Degree #5 - Business Administration

Business administration is such an in-demand degree, in part, because it's so flexible. Want to work at a bank? Business programs include finance classes. Or maybe you want to work in communications, marketing, or e-commerce? Again, this degree could cover some very relevant topics. Whether you want to work for a big or small business, studying business administration is a good way to prepare yourself.

Vancouver’s famous kissing couple is revealed

In the age of Facebook and Twitter, it was only a matter of time before the world learned the identities of the kissing couple from the now iconic photo of the Vancouver riots.

It was reported that the boyfriend and girlfriend in the photograph are Aussie bartender Scott Jones and Canadian college student Alex Thomas, who was injured just  before the picture was taken.

The papers report that Jones Thomas have been dating since Jones arrived in Vancouver on a “Working Holiday”. They attended Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, which the hometown Canucks lost 4-0 to the Boston Bruins, and then somehow found themselves between the angry rioters and charging riot police later that night in downtown Vancouver.

Brett Jones now says the couple is being besieged by media requests from outlets around the world.

All, of course, are interested in knowing the circumstances that found the couple smooching as cars were burned and windows were smashed around them. But despite some of our initial assumptions, the kiss seen ‘round the world wasn't the product of a riot- fueled, uncontrollable passion.

Brett Jones instead notes that Thomas was injured and his son was coming to her aid. An alternate angle taken from above shows other bystanders later attempting to help Thomas and Jones.

Combine that different angle with Brett  Jones  story and it certainly dispels the rumors that the couple had intentionally staged the photo.
“They were between the riot police and the rioters, and the riot police were actually charging forward, and Alex got knocked by a (police)shield and fell to the ground, “ Brett Jones told BBC News. “ (Scott) was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, It’s going to be OK, ‘ and the photographer just  took the shot  at that moment.”

UPDATE:
Jones and Thomas spoke with the Toronto Star:

Thomas said this morning that everything happened so fast that there was just massive confusion all around “ I was trying to understand what was going on. The photo was definitely not something we expected to happen, “ said Thomas .

The Six- Star Test to see if someone is a True Friend

Does she really care about you? Is he/she loyal? Is he just pretending to like you? Sometimes it can be hard hard to sift out out those who pretend to be our friends from true friends.
The Six- Star Test to see if she's a true friend....
● Interest....
One important criterion that defines a friend is how interested the person is in your life. Tell her/him about something significant that is going on in your life and see if he/she calls to follow up and find out what happened. If he/she doesn't, then call her/him and see if he/she mentions it. Finally, if she doesn't bring it up, hint about it and see if she even remember the conversation you had about it previously.....

● Loyalty....
Tell a secret about mutual friend and see if it gets back to him or her. True friends know the value of trust in a relationship. Just make sure that you get the permission of your friend to tell her/ him secret to this other person.....

● Pride....
Anyone can tell you to cheer up. It makes them feel good. But see who pats you on the back for a good job. Those who are not driven by jelousy and envy will do just that. Your true friends are proud of your accomplishments, not jelous of your successes. See if a friend comes to you when you get good news, not just bad news. ....

● Honesty....
A true friend is someone who tells you the things that you don't want to hear. She is willing to have you be upset with her if it will help you. Does she tell you things that are for your benefit even though she knows that it might make you upset with her?....

● Respect....
Tell her that there is something exciting. Something that is good, going on in your life but you absolutely prefer no talk about it right now and see if she presses you on it. There's a difference between curiosity and concern. If he/she must know then she's just interested in the gossip and not in you. A good friend will respect in your wishes and give you your space for now. He/she may bring it up from time to time, because she's interested, but she won't constantly and immediately press you on it if you make it clear that you choose not to discuss it now.....

● Sacrifice....
Is she willing to give up something if it means making you happy? Will he/she sacrifice her own pleasure for your happiness? Who decides what you do? Is the word compromise in her vocabulary? And when the chips are down and it's you against them, most people scramble to protect their own interest. ....

.. ..

It's best to gauge the relationship using these six over a period of time and not just a twenty four- hour period. But depending on what strategy your using on it.....
